It is with considerable sadness that we report the death of Richard ‘Crosie’ Crosland. We send our sympathies to Liz and daughters Emma and Henny.
Richard was an excellent winter sportsman and had been a Member of the SMTC for 36 years.
A Hurworth, near Darlington, man he, along with fellow Hurworth man Buster Harrison, was a key element in the development of the Great North which brought budding tobogganists to St Moritz from Northumberland, Co Durham, Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
Such is the success of the Great North apart from the high life in St Moritz, the annual lunch was a ‘must do’ event.
A “Great North” member says: “Without doubt Crosie was the star of the Great North. His sense of humour was first class, matched only by his winter sports ability. I will never forget his straight line approach to the final piste at Santa Caterinna. I thought he would never stop but typical of Crosie he covered everyone in icy snow and ordered a beer. Style always wins.”
